Claim this spotBoerboel stud fees usually run from $1,000 to $3,000. A health-tested male with no proven litters often asks $1,000 to $1,500. However, champions, imported dogs and proven sires can ask $2,000 to $3,500.
These are market estimates, since fees are private. South African bloodlines and appraisal scores both raise the price. The stud fee guide explains contracts and return services.

Hip and elbow dysplasia are the breed's main inherited problems. Therefore, many Boerboel breeders prefer PennHIP, which measures how loose the hips are. In addition, eyelid faults such as entropion and ectropion are common, so an eye exam is a sensible extra. Registered results are public on the OFA website.
See OFA vs PennHIP and our other health testing guides for how each test works.
First, watch him move. A Boerboel should be agile for his size, with a strong, level back and free hindquarters. Extra bulk is not a virtue, since heavier dogs put more strain on their joints.
Next, ask about his family. Vaginal hyperplasia in females, bloat and heart disease all appear in the breed, and none has a simple test. So ask what his dam, sisters and daughters have experienced.
Finally, meet him. The standard calls for a confident, calm and trainable dog. A Boerboel that is shy or sharp is dangerous at this size, so temperament must weigh as much as type.
The name means "farmer's dog" in Afrikaans. Settlers in South Africa bred these mastiffs to guard remote homesteads against predators and intruders. The AKC recognized the breed in the Working Group in 2015. Males stand 24 to 27 inches and often weigh well over 150 pounds.
At home, the breed is loyal, playful with its family and naturally protective. However, it is not a dog for beginners. As a result, responsible breeders screen puppy buyers as carefully as they screen studs.
Boerboels usually breed naturally. However, the weight of both dogs makes it hard work, so many owners choose artificial insemination. Chilled and frozen semen are common too, because top lines are spread across continents. Each profile lists the methods on offer.
The dog artificial insemination guide explains timing and shipping. Then see how VerifiedStuds works.
