Pocket Bully Stud Dogs

The Pocket is the shortest of the four American Bully classes, with the same heavy bone and wide chest in a compact frame. Because size sells, measurements and health results matter more than nicknames. On VerifiedStuds, owners are identity verified, and each profile shows height, registry papers and health results beside the fee.

What a pocket bully stud costs

A pocket bully stud usually asks $1,000 to $3,000. However, proven producers from well-known bloodlines, with show wins or a strong record of litters, can ask $3,500 to $5,000 or more.

These are market estimates, because fees are private and change with trends. Also ask what the fee includes, such as a repeat breeding or shipped semen. The stud fee guide explains contracts and return services.

Health tests for a pocket bully stud

The American Bully has no AKC parent club and no CHIC list. So the buyer has to ask. A careful owner tests for the joint, heart and skin problems seen in bully breeds. We suggest these results, the same ones listed on our American Bully stud page:

Test

What we accept

Hips

OFA hip evaluation or PennHIP

Elbows

OFA elbow evaluation

Heart

Cardiac exam registered with OFA

Patellas

Veterinary patellar luxation exam

Eyes

Exam by a board-certified ophthalmologist

DNA panel

NCL, HUU, DM and other breed-relevant markers

Brucellosis

Negative test taken before the breeding

Short, heavy dogs put extra load on their joints. Therefore, hips, elbows and kneecaps deserve a close look in this class. Registered results can be checked on the OFA website.

See the health testing guides for how each test works.

Pocket size rules: what the ABKC says

The American Bully Kennel Club divides the breed into four classes: Pocket, Standard, Classic and XL. Only height separates the Pocket from the Standard. A mature Pocket male stands under 17 inches at the withers and no less than 14 inches. Likewise, a mature female stands under 16 inches and no less than 13.

In contrast, Standard males measure 17 to 20 inches. Since the classes share one build, a Pocket should still look like a balanced American Bully and not a different breed. Terms such as micro and exotic are marketing labels, not ABKC classes.

How to choose a pocket bully sire

First, ask for his measured height and a photo that shows it. A dog sold as a Pocket who stands 17 inches is a Standard. Next, check his papers, because ABKC and UKC registration let you trace the pedigree.

Then watch him move. A sound Pocket walks freely, breathes quietly and carries his weight without bowing at the elbows. Extreme features often bring health trouble. As a result, moderate dogs tend to be the safer choice.

Finally, look at what he has produced. Photos of earlier litters at maturity tell you more than any pedigree name.

Natural breeding, chilled and frozen semen

Many Pocket males can breed naturally. However, their short legs and wide chests sometimes make a tie difficult, so artificial insemination is common. Chilled semen is also popular, because breeders often look far for the right bloodline. Each profile lists the methods on offer.

The dog artificial insemination guide explains timing and shipping. Then see how VerifiedStuds works.

Pocket bully stud FAQ

How much is a pocket bully stud fee?

Most owners ask $1,000 to $3,000, and proven producers can ask $5,000 or more. These figures are estimates.

How tall is a Pocket American Bully?

Under 17 inches for males and under 16 inches for females, measured at the withers, according to the ABKC standard.

Is a pocket bully a separate breed?

No. It is a size class of the American Bully. The build is the same as the Standard, only shorter.

What health tests should a pocket bully stud have?

There is no official list. Even so, good owners test hips, elbows, heart and patellas, and run a DNA panel. We also require a negative brucellosis test.
