Pomsky stud dogs with health results and size history

Pomsky Stud Dogs

A small dog with a wolf-like coat and often blue eyes, this mix of Pomeranian and Siberian Husky has become one of the most searched crosses. It is a cross, not an AKC breed, so quality varies widely. Therefore, health tests and honest size records matter even more. VerifiedStuds shows both on each stud profile, beside the fee.

What Pomsky stud dogs cost

Pomsky stud fees usually run from $800 to $2,500. A health-tested male with no proven litters often charges $800 to $1,200. However, small, proven sires with husky markings and blue eyes can ask $1,500 to $3,000.

These are market estimates, since fees are private. Many first crosses use a purebred Pomeranian as the sire. So compare our Pomeranian stud page too. The stud fee guide explains contracts and return services.

Health tests for Pomsky stud dogs

Because the Pomsky is a cross, it has no AKC parent club and no CHIC list. However, breed groups such as the Pomsky Club of America set testing standards for their members. A careful stud owner covers the risks of both parent breeds. We suggest these results:

Test

What we accept

Hips

OFA hip evaluation or PennHIP

Eyes

Exam by a board-certified ophthalmologist (ACVO)

Patellas

Veterinary patellar luxation exam

Heart

Cardiac exam registered with OFA

DNA panel

DM, PRA and other markers from both parent breeds

Brucellosis

Negative test taken before the breeding

The Husky side brings hip dysplasia and inherited eye disease, including cataracts. The Pomeranian side adds loose kneecaps, heart defects and a collapsing windpipe. Therefore, eyes and knees deserve the closest look. Registered results are on the OFA website.

See our Pomeranian health testing guide and the other health testing guides for more detail.

How to choose between Pomsky stud dogs

First, learn the generation labels. An F1 is half Pomeranian and half Husky. An F2 comes from two F1 parents, and later generations follow. Size and looks vary most in early generations, so ask what his parents and siblings weigh.

Next, be realistic about size. Adult Pomskies range from about 10 to 35 pounds. No breeder can promise a tiny adult from an early cross. So judge him by his own adult weight and by the puppies he has already sired.

Finally, ask about temperament. Both parent breeds are vocal, clever and energetic. As a result, a calm, biddable sire is worth more than striking eyes.

Pomsky temperament and background

The first recorded Pomsky litter was born in the United States in 2012. Since a Husky is far larger than a Pomeranian, breeders use a Husky dam and a Pomeranian sire, and the breeding is done by artificial insemination. The cross is not recognized by the AKC, and results vary from dog to dog.

At their best, Pomskies are playful, bright and affectionate. However, they shed heavily and need daily exercise. Therefore, honest breeders explain both points to buyers.

Why most Pomsky breedings use insemination

The size gap makes a natural mating unsafe in a first cross. Therefore, a vet collects the Pomeranian or Pomsky male and inseminates the female. Chilled semen is common too, because good sires are scattered. Each profile lists the methods on offer.

The dog artificial insemination guide explains timing and shipping. Then see how VerifiedStuds works.

Pomsky stud service FAQ

How much is a Pomsky stud fee?

Most owners charge $800 to $2,500. However, small, proven sires with husky markings can ask up to $3,000. These figures are estimates.

What health tests should a Pomsky stud have?

There is no official list. Even so, good breeders test hips, eyes, patellas and heart, and run a DNA panel. We also require a negative brucellosis test.

How big does a Pomsky get?

Usually 10 to 35 pounds as an adult. Size is hardest to predict in first-generation crosses.

Why are Pomskies bred by artificial insemination?

A Husky female is much larger than a Pomeranian male, so natural mating is impractical and unsafe.

Can crossbreeds be listed on the site?

Yes. Purebred dogs and crosses can both be listed on VerifiedStuds.
