Cavapoo stud dogs with heart checks and coat DNA
Soft, small and endlessly affectionate, this mix of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle is one of the most wanted companions. It is a cross, not an AKC breed, so quality varies widely. Therefore, health tests and coat DNA matter even more. VerifiedStuds shows both on each stud profile, beside the fee.

Claim this spotCavapoo stud fees usually run from $500 to $1,800. A health-tested male with no proven litters often charges $500 to $1,000. However, proven sires with tested coat genes and popular colors can ask $1,200 to $2,500.
These are market estimates, since fees are private. Many breeders also use a purebred Poodle as the sire. So compare our Poodle stud page too. The stud fee guide explains contracts and return services.
$500 to $1,800+
Overall range (estimate): $500 to $2,500
Health-tested, unproven male: $500 to $1,000
Proven sire with tested coat genes: $1,200 to $2,500

Because the Cavapoo is a cross, it has no AKC parent club and no CHIC list. So a careful stud owner covers the risks of both parent breeds. We suggest these results:
Test
What we accept
Heart
Exam by a veterinary cardiologist, repeated yearly
Eyes
Exam by a board-certified ophthalmologist (ACVO)
Patellas
Veterinary patellar luxation exam
Hips
OFA hip evaluation or PennHIP
DNA panel
prcd-PRA, EF, CC/DE and DM, plus coat genes
Brucellosis
Negative test taken before the breeding
The Cavalier side brings mitral valve disease, which is the breed's leading health problem, along with episodic falling (EF) and curly coat dry eye (CC/DE). The Poodle side adds eye disease and loose kneecaps. Therefore, a current heart exam and a DNA panel are the minimum. Registered results are on the OFA website.
See our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel health testing guide and Poodle health testing guide for more detail.
First, learn the generation labels. An F1 is a first cross of Cavalier and Poodle. An F1b is an F1 bred back to a Poodle. Multigen means both parents are Cavapoos. Each step changes how predictable the coat will be.
Next, ask about his heart. Because Cavalier heart disease starts in middle age, one clear exam on a young dog proves little. So ask how old he is, when a cardiologist last examined him, and how his Cavalier ancestors fared.
Finally, ask for coat DNA. The furnishings gene gives the fluffy face and is linked to low shedding. Without that test, a low-shedding promise is only a guess.
The cross became popular in Australia in the 1990s, where it is called the Cavoodle. Breeders wanted the Cavalier's gentle nature with the Poodle's coat. The cross is not recognized by the AKC, and results vary from dog to dog.
At their best, Cavapoos are sweet, playful and easy to live with. However, no dog is truly allergy free. As a result, honest breeders test coats and health, and they explain the limits to buyers.
Cavapoos of similar size breed naturally. However, when a small male is used on a larger female, artificial insemination is the practical route. Chilled semen is common as well, because breeders often search widely for the right size and coat genes. Each profile lists the methods on offer.
The dog artificial insemination guide explains timing and shipping. Then see how VerifiedStuds works.

How much is a Cavapoo stud fee?
Most owners charge $500 to $1,800. However, proven sires with tested coat genes can ask up to $2,500. These figures are estimates.
What health tests should a Cavapoo stud have?
There is no official list. Even so, good breeders test heart, eyes and patellas, and run a DNA panel. We also require a negative brucellosis test.
Is a Cavapoo the same as a Cavoodle?
Yes. Cavoodle is the Australian name for the same Cavalier and Poodle cross.
Do Cavapoos shed?
Some do. Shedding depends on coat genes, which a DNA test can show. Therefore, ask for the stud's furnishings and shedding results.
Can crossbreeds be listed on the site?
Yes. Purebred dogs and crosses can both be listed on VerifiedStuds.
