Weimaraner stud dogs with health and hunting records
Hunters call the Weimaraner the Gray Ghost for its silver coat and silent style in the field. It is a big, clever dog that needs both work and company. So breeders look for sires with sound bodies and steady minds. VerifiedStuds shows each stud's results, titles and fee.

Claim this spotWeimaraner stud fees usually run from $600 to $1,500. A health-tested male without titles often charges $600 to $1,200. However, AKC champions, field-titled dogs and proven sires commonly ask $1,500 to $2,500.
These are market estimates, as fees are private. Weimaraner litters are often large, so some owners price by the puppy. Our stud fee guide compares flat and per-puppy fees.
$600 to $1,500+
Overall range: $600 to $2,500
Health-tested, untitled male: $600 to $1,200
Champion or field-titled sire: $1,500 to $2,500

The Weimaraner Club of America sets the breed's test list, which the AKC shows on its Sporting Group health testing page. Owners upload these results for the Verified Health badge:
Test
What we accept
Hips
OFA hip evaluation or PennHIP
Eyes
Exam by a board-certified ophthalmologist (ACVO)
Thyroid
OFA thyroid panel from an approved lab
Heart
Cardiac exam registered with OFA
DNA
Spinal dysraphism (SD), hypomyelination (HYM) and hyperuricosuria (HUU)
Brucellosis
Negative test taken before the breeding
The three DNA tests cover a spinal defect (SD), a tremor disorder in puppies (HYM) and a cause of bladder stones (HUU). In addition, bloat is a serious risk in this deep-chested breed. Because it has no test, ask about it in the family. Registered results can be checked on the OFA website.
Our health testing guides explain hips, eyes, thyroid panels and DNA results.
First, check coat and color. The AKC standard accepts a short, sleek coat in shades of gray. A distinctly blue or black coat is a disqualification, and so is a long coat. Therefore, a "rare blue Weimaraner" is not worth a premium.
Next, look for ability. The parent club awards ratings for hunting and retrieving, and many sires also hold AKC hunt test titles. Even for pet litters, a sire that works well usually has the drive and focus the breed should have.
Finally, weigh temperament. Weimaraners bond tightly and can become anxious when left alone. So ask how the stud behaves at home and on his own. Males should stand 25 to 27 inches tall, with an athletic, balanced build.
The AKC describes the Weimaraner as friendly, fearless and obedient. Nobles at the court of Weimar, in Germany, developed the breed in the early 1800s to hunt big game. Later it became an all-round bird dog.
Males weigh 70 to 90 pounds. The breed is fast, smart and full of stamina. As a result, it thrives with runners, hunters and active families, and it struggles in homes that leave it idle.
Weimaraners breed naturally in most cases. However, chilled semen is handy, since titled and fully tested sires are not found in every state. Frozen semen from older champions is available as well. Each profile lists the methods on offer.

How much is a Weimaraner stud fee?
Most owners charge $600 to $1,500. However, champions and field-titled sires can ask up to $2,500.
What health tests should a Weimaraner stud have?
The parent club list covers hips, eyes, thyroid, heart and three DNA tests. We also require a negative brucellosis test.
Are blue Weimaraners purebred?
They can be registered, but blue is a disqualifying color in the AKC standard. So blue dogs cannot be shown.
Do Weimaraners suffer from bloat?
Yes, the risk is higher in deep-chested breeds. Ask about relatives, and talk to your vet about prevention.
Can I list a sporting breed with no page yet?
Yes. Any breed can be listed on VerifiedStuds.
